How do I upgrade to Windows 11?

  • Click here to see our step-by-step guide on upgrading to Windows 11.

Will I lose any of my data in the upgrade?

  • No, your data will be preserved during the upgrade. Regardless, this is a good time to double check that OneDrive is correctly syncing and backing up your files!

Why do I have to upgrade?

  • Starting on October 14th, 2025, Microsoft will officially end its support of Windows 10. This means that important security updates will no longer be deployed, making these machines inherently dangerous to the CSU network. Any Windows 10 computers identified after this date are required to be removed from our network to ensure security.

The Windows 11 upgrade isn't showing up in Software Center.

  • The most common reason for this is that your computer is not eligible to upgrade to Windows 11. The easiest solution would be to replace the computer with one that can upgrade to Windows 11. You can find information on standard options by visiting the CAS IT Hardware Ordering Form.

What should I do if my computer can't upgrade to Windows 11?

  • The easiest solution would be to replace the computer with one that can upgrade to Windows 11. You can find information on standard options by visiting the CAS IT Hardware Ordering Form.
    • NOTE: CAS IT has a limited number of used lab desktops for sale at a discount. Select “Used Lab Desktops” on the Hardware Order form for more information

My Computer needs to be Windows 10 for a specific application or lab instrument.

  • If this is a computer that cannot be replaced (i.e. one that utilizes lab equipment, or a single application that only runs on Windows 10), please make a ticket with CAS IT or send an email to [email protected] with details. CAS IT will evaluate exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
